Daniel Hagan, LMFT

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the State of California (# 163055)

Therapy can be a place to better understand the patterns that shape our lives, including the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that sometimes keep us feeling stuck. I believe meaningful change begins with curiosity rather than judgment. By developing greater awareness of these patterns and learning new ways of responding to them, we can begin making changes that bring us closer to the lives we want to lead.

I work primarily with adults and young adults, taking a collaborative and supportive approach to therapy.

Part of our work together involves recognizing when certain patterns may be getting in the way of your goals. Creating a space where clients feel heard and understood is important to me, and I believe there is room for humor in therapy when appropriate. I also value practical strategies that can be used outside of our sessions, allowing the work we do together to carry into everyday life.

My work is grounded primarily in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), while also incorporating principles and techniques from:

  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Narrative Therapy
  • Client-Centered Therapy
  • Strengths-Based Approaches

I particularly enjoy working with clients experiencing:

  • Anxiety and excessive worry
  • Perfectionism and self-criticism
  • Stress and life transitions
  • Emotional avoidance
  • Substance use, including concerns or ambivalence about cannabis use
  • Difficulty changing habits or behaviors
  • Self-esteem concerns

I recognize that making changes can be difficult, especially when familiar ways of thinking or coping have become deeply ingrained. My goal is not to tell you how you should live your life, but to help you understand what may be keeping you stuck and support you as you work toward changes that matter to you.
