Open Position:

Full-Time Outpatient Clinician

(in Person and Online in San Rafael, CA)

About Us

We are a group of motivated clinicians who leverage technology to serve adolescents, adults, and their families who struggle with mental health challenges and/or substance abuse disorder (SUD). We offer telehealth, in-person, and hybrid services. We are team-oriented and value a positive, supportive, and creative workplace environment to complement the meaningful and challenging work we do. If you are an innovative mental health professional looking to both serve a diverse population and contribute to the emerging digital mental health space, Family Spring is the place for you!

About You

We are seeking applications from motivated clinicians who will provide direct therapy to teens and/or adults. (Child therapists are welcome, too.) The ideal clinician will bring their unique history, skills, and approach to the work and be committed to ongoing learning and improvement. We welcome applicants with personal histories of struggle (SUD and/or mental health symptoms) that have influenced their transformation and work as a professional.
Alongside having relevant expertise and a curiosity to grow as a clinician, the preferred candidate will be technology friendly and have several opportunities for growth within the company.

  • Maintain all clinical documentation using our HIPAA compliant electronic health record (EHR; see below).
  • Attend and participate in individual and group case consultation with the clinical director.
  • Attend and participate in monthly or bi-monthly, 1-hour in-house trainings.

  • Use online EHR to complete written records for each patient including, but not limited to intake notes, progress notes, treatment plans, termination notes, and other forms or documents which may be needed or required from time-to-time by Family Spring or third parties in conjunction with the treatment of the patient in a timely fashion (by Friday of each week).
  • Keep patient files accurate and up to date.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

    • Q: Do I get paid for no-shows or late cancellations? A: As an insurance-based practice, we cannot submit claims for no shows or late cancellations, therefore you do not get paid for missed sessions or no shows. Please note: The income above is based on seeing 22 clients per week, taking into account no shows and cancellations. We also have a firm no show/cancellation policy that we coach you through in order to minimize cancellations.
    • Q: How long does it take to fill my caseload? A: It generally takes 4-6 weeks to fill your caseload. We have put a lot of thoughtfulness into a smooth onboarding process and this timeline has proven over the years to work best. Please note: Depending on when you onboard, it could take slightly longer (7-8 weeks) if onboarding during holidays or peak vacation times.
    • Q: Do I get paid for consultation and admin time? A: There is no additional administrative fee. Progress note time is built into the “psychotherapy hour” (though you do not have to complete your notes right after your session — just within two business days), and consultation is optional (though highly encouraged).

Thought Provoking Questions (TPQs)

  • Q: Why should I join Family Spring? Why shouldn’t I just start my own private practice? A: You’d want to join Family Spring if you’re looking for the autonomy of a private practice regarding your schedule, but want the help of a back end team that handles all marketing, billing, and operations. At Family Spring, you won’t have to worry about denied claims, getting your caseload filled, or feeling like you’re on an island clinically. Whether you come to every holiday party and online training we put on, or pretty much keep to yourself, you’d join Family Spring because you want the support when you need it. Please note: If you’re wondering about a future in private practice, Family Spring is a great place to work for a few years to learn the ins and outs of running your own business. The CEO is an open book and happy to be transparent about what it takes to run a practice.
  • Q: Why shouldn’t I just work for one of the big mental health tech giants? A: The tech giants oftentimes throw around big numbers when you take into account how many clients they want you to book, or do the math around being 1099 vs w2 (they are 1099 and we are w2), not only can you get the higher compensation you deserve with us, but you will be working for a mental health group practice owned by clinicians, lead by clinicians, who have a “clinician-centric” core value. Plain and simple: It hits different.
